Best Practices Shared For Commercial Activity In State & County Parks

Feb 18, 2022

A free, virtual Zoom meeting was hosted on February 18, 2022 for the Kauaʻi Wedding Professionals Association and any interested parties on Best Practices for Commercial Activity in State and County Parks.

With so many illegal commercial activities and lack of permits for illegal photography/ weddings/elopement happening on our island, it was necessary for Kauaʻi Visitors Bureau (KVB) to collaborate with various state and county agencies to hold this webinar to encourage and educate pono (proper, correct, right) practices.

Along with KVB, present at the table included the following agencies: Hawai‘i State Film Office, Kauaʻi Film Commissioner, Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) Division of State Parks (DSP), DLNR Land Division, and DLNR Division of Conservation and Resources (DOCARE).

During the webinar, questions arose and clarity was provided on what activities requires a permit, knowing whose land activity is being conducted on (State vs. County), beach weddings and required permits, and social media etiquette on posting and tagging photos.

Call to action was asking all on the call to kōkua (help) with following the correct processes to ensure pono and safe practices are being followed; it is our kuleana (responsibility) to mālama (preserve, protect) our natural resources from degradation and overuse.
