Roberts Hawaiʻi Leads the Charge with New All-Electric Tour Coaches

Jul 31, 2023

In a groundbreaking move, Roberts Hawaiʻi, the largest and oldest transportation provider in the 50th state, has taken a significant step towards a sustainable future on Oʻahu. The employee-owned company has proudly become the first in the nation to introduce three cutting-edge all-electric MCI J4500 CHARGE™ tour coaches for its tourism operations.

The all-electric models are powered by American-made, high-energy batteries, aligning with Roberts Hawaiʻi's dedication to reducing its carbon footprint. The initiative has received support from Hawaiʻi’s State Energy Office and the Hawaiʻi Department of Health through the Diesel Replacement Rebate Program. This collaboration demonstrates a shared commitment to sustainability and aligns with the state’s net-negative emissions targets.

Roberts Hawaiʻi's adoption of these electric coaches plays a crucial role in helping the state and City and County of Honolulu achieve its net-negative emissions targets. By embracing cleaner and greener transportation options, the company is actively contributing to the preservation of Hawaii’s pristine environment.

To showcase their commitment to sustainability, the all-electric coaches feature an eye-catching exterior graphic. This design includes Roberts' iconic bunny holding an electric bolt, symbolizing the shift towards electric-powered vehicles. Decals displaying "Mālama Hawaiʻi," translating to "take care of Hawaiʻi," further emphasize Roberts' dedication to preserving the beauty of the islands.

With luxury, innovation, and a commitment to environmental stewardship, Roberts Hawaii is driving towards a future where sustainable practices shape the way we explore and enjoy the beauty of the Aloha State in alignment with the Oʻahu DMAP Action I; visitors can now choose a new way to get around Oʻahu while lessening their environmental impacts.
